Accounting Clerk – Job Description


Overview

The Accounting Clerk is responsible for maintaining accurate and up‑to‑date financial records by preparing, recording, and verifying accounting entries. This role focuses heavily on posting transactions to the company’s books and ensuring that all entries are complete, timely, and compliant with internal standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Record daily financial transactions into the company’s accounting books, including sales, purchases, expenses, and payments
  • Verify the accuracy of invoices, receipts, and supporting documents before posting
  • Maintain organized and up‑to‑date ledgers, journals, and other financial records
  • Reconcile account balances and report discrepancies to the supervisor
  • Assist in preparing simple financial summaries or reports as needed
  • Support month‑end and year‑end closing activities by ensuring all entries are posted correctly
  • Coordinate with other departments to gather missing documentation or clarify transaction details
  • Follow company accounting procedures and maintain confidentiality of financial information

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Basic understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Experience with accounting software is an advantage
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organizational and time‑management skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and handle repetitive tasks with consistency
